A short journalism course was conducted at K.G. College, providing students with valuable insights into various aspects of the media industry. The course aimed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the diverse opportunities available in both traditional and new media. It was conducted from 15 Jan to 21 Jan 2025.
Mr. Vijay Singh Holam Bureau chief of Maharashtra Times delivered a lecture on the opportunities in print media. He highlighted the role of print journalism in the evolving media landscape and the career paths it offers for aspiring journalists. His session covered the importance of newspapers, magazines, and other print publications in shaping public opinion and providing credible news.
Following Mr. Holam’s lecture, Mr. Makrand Ghodke of Metro News took the stage to discuss the opportunities in electronic media. His presentation focused on television and radio as influential forms of media and how they have adapted to new technologies. Mr. Ghodke emphasized the growing need for professionals in fields like news reporting, production, and broadcasting in the electronic media sector.
Mr. Siddhesh Rajguru from Radio 100 fmthen delivered an engaging lecture on broadcasting commercial media. He explored the intersection of entertainment, advertisements, and journalism in the broadcasting industry. His session focused on the business aspects of broadcasting, including revenue generation through advertisements, and how students can leverage this sector for career opportunities.
Mr. Sandip Kshirsagar from Radio Nagar followed with a session on community radio and its role in community development. He explained how community radio stations cater to local audiences, providing relevant content and serving as a platform for community engagement. His lecture highlighted the importance of community-driven media in promoting social change and addressing the unique needs of different communities.
To round off the course, Prof. Dr. Swati Munot conducted a comprehensive session on all types of media and their content. She provided an in-depth overview of how different media platforms—print, electronic, and digital—deliver content and the ways in which they impact society. Prof. Munot’s session aimed to broaden the students’ understanding of the media’s role in both shaping public perception and reflecting societal values.
As part of the course, students were also given the opportunity to visit media studios, where they could witness firsthand how content is created and produced. This hands-on experience allowed them to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations, enhancing their understanding of the media industry.
Overall, the journalism course at K.G. College provided students with a well-rounded perspective on various forms of media and their opportunities, preparing them for potential careers in the ever-evolving field of journalism and mass communication.
